7 Beaches to see close to Tamarindo

Playa Grande

Playa Grande is 18 kilometers north of Tamarindo in the district of Santa Cruz. The beach is internationally known as one of the best surf spots in Costa Rica and it is also part of the Marino Las Baulas National Park. Nesting place of the biggest sea reptiles and the leatherback turtle. here you will have great views, sandy ground, and big waves hitting the shore.

Playa Avellanas

Playa Avellanas is also located on the gold coast of Guanacaste. It is 19 kilometers away from Tamarindo. This is a paradise for surfers, with its gorgeous waves which can get a height up to 5,5 meters. Local people call this beach “Small Hawaii”, because of the white sand and the turquoise water. There is a beach bar with loungers and hammocks and there are a handful of restaurants. It is the ideal place to relax.

Playa Conchal

Playa Conchal is about 21 kilometers away from Tamarindo. Together with Playa Brasilito, this beach is separated by a rocky headland known as Punta Conchal, which gets its name from the sand that is composed of hundreds of millions of tiny shells. The shells feel very soft on the feet and it is so wonderful to walk around there. The beach is so long that you will find a quiet place for sure. There are also shade-giving trees and the water is very clear.

Playa Negra

Playa Negra is located 23 kilometers north of Tamarindo and is also a surfers paradise. It is known for its world-class waves and breaks. But not only this distinguishes this beach, there are also several restaurants and Cafés and gorgeous views. The perfect spot to lay back and enjoy the Tico lifestyle.

Playa Honda

This beach is located 40 minutes away from Tamarindo. It is a perfect beach for relaxation with a picnic or some reading since there are usually not many people here. The road to get here is very bumpy (like most roads in Costa Rica), so it is better to have a bigger car. The road to Playa Minas is the same.

This beach is located very close to Playa Honda. There are also many other gorgeous beaches close to here that you can visit at the same time. Playa Minas is a very wide beach and is usually pretty quiet.

This beach is located right outside the town of Potrero. It takes about 30 minutes to get here from Tamarindo and there are also many beaches nearby that you can visit. It is near supermarkets and other stores and restaurants in case you need to do some shopping or if you get hungry.
