Where to surf in Guanacaste?

Otherwise known as the “Gold Coast” of Costa Rica, the Guanacaste region is home to some pretty spectacular beaches, and is renowned for some of the best surf spots in the world. The area is fortunate enough to get decent swells all year round and perfect for all standards.

Here are some of our top 3 surf spots:

Playa Nosara

 Located in the Nicoya Peninsula on Costa Rica’s north pacific coast in Guanacaste. Named by National Geographic as one of the top surf towns in the entire world with a wide variety of sandy breaks. Here you may catch one of the longest rides of your life. A guided full-day trip, by land to one of the most consistently great spots for surfing in Costa Rica, Playa Nosara. 

Santa Rosa National Park

This is home to Witch’s Rock and is considered one of Costa Rica’s best surf spots. Made famous by Robert August in the movie Endless Summer II, Witch’s Rock (or Roca Bruja as the locals call it) provides world-class surfing along its sand bottom beach break almost every day of the year. Ollie’s Point is a right-hand point break located only a few miles north of Witch’s Rock and worth a visit too. 

Marbella

This is one of the less crowded beaches in the Gold Coast. Here, the off-shore winds help to provide sustained surf breaks. This beach is definitely recommended for more experienced surfers as waves can reach several feet in height in steadily oncoming swells.
